Drinking Water Daily: 5 Simple Dos and Don’ts to Follow

Water is very much essential for every living being. Our body consists of 70% of water. Drinking inadequate amount of water can lead to dehydration, which in turn causes several health issues. Doctors recommend drinking at least 2-3 litres of water every day but, ensure that it is pure and free of all kind of impurities. Water purification is the best way to get access to pure drinking water. Besides drinking pure water, there are several important things that you should know about drinking water daily. Listed below are a few simple dos and don’ts that you should follow.

 

Dos

• Drink Filtered Water

The point is already mentioned above but, we are emphasizing it again as the topmost tip to keep in mind. Considering the increasing levels of water pollution, it has become more important than ever before to drink purified water. There are different kinds of water purification systems available in the market, such as RO purifier, UV purifier and UF purifier. Assess the quality of water you get at home based on a lab test. Accordingly, invest in a water purifier that is best suitable for getting rid of the impurities present.

• Drink Adequate Amount of Water

Intake of the right amount of water is very important. The amount of water that should be consumed varies from person to person depending on his or her age and lifestyle. However, the generally recommended amount 2-3 litres on an average for an adult.

• Sit Down and Sip Water; Don’t Gulp It Down Hastily

It’s a good practice to sit down and sip water slowly because studies suggest that water intake should be a slow and steady process no matter how thirsty you are. Drinking water while standing passes it with a push without proper filtration. Due to this, the impurities will collect in the bladder or blood, resulting in kidney damage.

Don’ts

• Don’t Substitute Water with Any Other Drink

When you are thirsty, make it a practice to drink pure water. Don’t substitute with any sugary drink like colas, iced tea or other cold beverages. Such drinks will only cause more harm than good. So, always carry a water bottle so that you can hydrate yourself whenever you are thirsty.

Don’t rely on sports drinks as well. After hours of exercise, you will obviously feel thirsty, but don’t consume sports drinks as they contain more sugar than what is specified on the pack. What’s the use of working so hard and gaining those extra calories in the form of a sports drink?

• Don’t Drink Too Much Water After Meals

Timing is very important for drinking water. Don’t gulp down several glasses of water in between meals or immediately after meals. It’s okay to drink some water one hour before or after meals. Drinking water after you get up in the morning is also a very good practice to follow.

Drinking adequate amount of water daily is important. It is equally important to follow the above-mentioned dos and don’ts as well. Keep the above points in mind and follow them in your daily life.
